My makeshift 10m indoor air rifle shooting range

Dear all,

After some 'meticulous' planning, particularly at a time when i'm dwelling in a rented apartment, i managed to set up this makeshift indoor shooting range. Special thanks to my dad who helped me out with this 'mini-project' Care was taken to ensure that the walls weren't dotted with pellet marks and that the pellet didn't rebound on anything in the surroundings. The whole area was 'cordoned off' when the practice session began. The purpose was to zero my .22 Jimy air rifle, which turned out to be a Herculean task.

All that i needed were:

The cardboard box was that of an Aquaguard water treatment filter. I stuffed it with the old rugs and newspapers. Upon firing, the pellets tore through the clothes and got embedded in the newspapers. This saved the wall behind and the other appliances in the room. I turned on the TV in full volume for obvious reasons.

I mounted the air rifle on my makeshift shooter's stand (My keyboard stand )

However, the defective rear sight let me down and the shots were inconsistent. I would also attribute the hardness of the trigger and my wrist shake for the inconsistency. After trying out in different positions, i finally managed to hit the bull's eye in standing position. But the next few shots could get me only somewhere near the bull's eye. Then I realised that the only solution is to replace the rear sight.

However, while aiming, it appears to be normal:

Most of the pellets got embedded in the newspapers after piercing through the clothes.

at what range were you zeroing it in?

How you are zeroing it ? By off hand shooting or by Bench Rest ? I would advise you to use a metal pellet trap instead than using cardboard box. Repeatedly shooting in the same box may penetrate the rugs and newspaper and actually hit the wall. Otherwise you have to keep on monitoring the condition of your box after few shots.

Within 10 metres.

Zeroing was done hand-held. As you said, I kept monitoring the condition of the box. Only after I was extremely sure that the pellets wouldn't pierce through the other end, did I continue firing. However, I agree that I should have used a metal trap. Thanks for your advice people. I'll get hold of one Any suggestions on the rear sight?

Make a pellet trap like this and beat the SHIT !!! out of it and still your house would be clean.......This comes as a boon for those who live in Apartments….
