Why this emphasis on oiling a gun? If they are clean, guns function even without any oil though it would increase wear and tear on parts.Infact a lot of oil will attract dust that would negatively impact reliability in some firearms. Also oil in the chamber will increase chamber pressure.

The Indian habit of dry firing firearms can harden firing pins and make them brittle over a period of time.Considering the fact that many of guns being sold are at least 23 years old, might be something to consider.

Agree with the rest of what you have to say.

Condolences to his family, may his soul rest in peace,Winnie the problem in my humble opinion is that if 1 has a lil high profile business, keeping an IOF Rev/Pistol is asking for trouble,1mulitipies it with IOF Ammo.He would have been better off if he had a decent shotgun loaded even with Magna Astram, would have cut the guys in pieces,as far as practice goes we get 25 CTGS in a year,ao naahao ge kya or nichodo ge kya,2 CTGS a month to practice with,a guy with NRI membership and a decent DM can get a unlimited amount of ammo endorsed on his licence but a person who has a normal life is stuck with 25/25 Ctgs an year. In the good old days when 1 bought a Gun/Rifle/Handgun the dealer would insist that you fire about 100 Ctgs to be familer with the weapon.Winne i have seen ppl with S W Revolvers using 25 Yr old ammo and they misfire, worse hangfire that can be a killer ,same way if 1 uses fresh ammo be it a Pistol/Rev the chances of it not working are slim, the debate shouldnt be with Rev/Pistol but the quality of ammo.I run a lil high profile business in a rural area,i have IOF ammo but use it practice only, when moving around i carry MINI MAgs or Super X for my HI-Standard and Winchester Super X for my shotty. This unemployment, drugs, etc, etc are going to cause more problems and then the divide between haves & havenots,so its better to be prepared than sorry .Lets start mailing our H"nable Home Minister, the guy sees sense and i think he means business,One can atleast talk sense to him and have the ARMS ACT modified so that its an Act for Citizens of a independent nation and the Act finally comes out of the Gora Raj.

Well oiled means only as much as is required and where required. - i agree that chaps sometimes feel that the more the better - that is a something they should learn or be aware of as soon as they have a weapon.
It will also keep it friction free and smooth.
as far as attracting dust is concerned that is again part of maintenance - check and re check on a regular basis to ensure that it is in "mint" condition :-).

+1 Always keep one up right there in the Chamber  and carry well. ( don't know if you can do this with IOF stuff )

cheers,

Here is one jeweller who had better luck. Its almost comical to see the bad guys take off when they find out that he has a gun.

Yes Sir,
You are right if the weapon we are using for self defense and it failed to work at the time when really you need it then its worst then a toy gun, because the failed attempt of the pistol will take you life as the other one will shoot you.
I am really thank you for you’re this post

A section of the press had reported that the jeweller was himself facing a murder case. If it is true then possibly he had a unlicensed weapon , purchased from the underworld. In such a case, the holder of such arms generally procure ammunation from same source and it can be of doubtful quality . Do any member have any idea as to whether the pistol was a licensed one.

A very disturbing sight. however my condoleces to the family of the deceased.there are a few points which however came to my mind when i saw that video(saw it a number of times)the first time when he racked the slide , i think he managed a shot.secondly if he managed a shot the first time why did he rack it the second time..moreover if the pistol was jamming or got jammed ,the slide would not have been racked.i guess it was a case of misfire ,i am not confident cause i cant get the video in a very good quality.if someone here has some information how to go about it on you tube (if it is there)it will be highly appreciated. We have to hand it to the brave gentelman cause he did stand up and defended himself, its sheer bad luck that the weapon or the ammunition gave him away.
