The Basque .32 is a product of the prolific pair Echave&Arizmendi.

Approximating IOF standards in quality they were designed to be cheap and available. They are fairly common and I've encountered quite a few in varying conditions.

Not very nice workmanship though the design was in theory, pretty good and well laid out.

While the alloy frame doesn't give too much heartache(Except when you have to refinish a piece), you can expect the trigger linkage bar to generously provide you with some dangerous moments. Its simply a flimsy sheet metal affair with the trigger-end crudely folded over 90degrees to engage the corresponding hole in the triggers upper shoulder. The flat firing pin is also prone to fracture and may on occasion perforate the primer. Crude sear-hammer interface as well.

The magazine catch wears pretty quick and is prone to play- The pistol feed is very sensitive to even the slightest misalignment of a loose magazine.

Of course since this is India, you needn't be shocked at the insane prices.

As doc mentioned, Lama and Astra are the only worthwhile Spanish brands. Treat any Ruby as suspect until you see it, handle it and are sure that it was made by one of the better makers- There are just too many makers small and big, obscure and well known. Ruby pistols as such suffer from a drastically wide variation in quality and build.

Don't opt for any .25 unless you have no other choice. Not even if its from a good brand. That's my take.

Take some trouble and just order an Ashani from the factory. Best option.

manu,
Colt New Police revolvers were chambered in .32 long Colt, .32 Colt New Police, or the .32 S&W. Before you go too far, determine which .32 cartridge it uses. The .32 which is commonly available and used in India is .32 S&W long. The .32 long colt chamber is NOT compatible with .32 S&W long bullet. Also what is the condition of the firearm ?

I am sorry manu, I keep busting your bubble , but you see pal I am only trying to help.

best,
RP.

From http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=216474

The Colt New Police is the same gun as the Colt New Pocket revolver, only with a longer grip.

These revolvers were the first swing-out cylinder, double action small revolvers made by Colt.
The New Pocket was introduced in 1895, and the New Police version was introduced in 1896.
It was produced until 1907, when it was replaced by the stronger Police Positive which was basically the same gun only with a new "positive" safety device to prevent firing unless the trigger is pulled.
Colt made 49,000 New Police models.

The New Police was famous as the first standardized double action revolver the New York City police bought, by order of then Police Commissioner Teddy Roosevelt.

The New Pocket/New Police was the direct ancestor of all the later small framed Colt's like the Police Positive Special, Detective Special, Cobra, and Diamondback.

The New Police was available in .32 Colt, .32 Colt New Police, or the .32 S&W..
It was made in 2 1/2", 4", and 6" barrels, and in bright blue or nickel.
Grips were molded hard black (Gutta Percha) rubber.

As long as a gunsmith checks it out, it should be safe to fire with currently available .32 S&W ammo.
Keep in mind that this is an antique double action, and care should be taken not to drop it or accidentally strike the hammer on a loaded chamber.

Value on these is "around" $400.00 in excellent condition.

Therefore , It would be advisable to carry it with one chamber empty for safety purpose .

The IOF pistol price should not be more than 75,000.
Other models mentioned would vary upon the condition but the range mentioned is within prevailing limits
