Not every newcomer begins by posting a want ad for a semi-auto pistol, THEN once he DOES NOT (apparently) find one within his budget he begins to call EVERY semi-auto pistol owner AN IDIOT AND A SHOWOFF.... sour grapes it might be, but if you call everyone who is NOT of YOUR opinion an IDIOT - you are not going to be winning any Mr. Congeniality contests anytime soon....vjha55";p="35158 wrote:If any new comer like me is not heard and tolerated then this site will remain confined and restricted to few.

If you wish to debate - then DEBATE... if you resort to name calling, then why the surprise when people are less than cordial in return?

Cheers!

My friend, I planned to stay out of this thread unless forced to do so... looks like I was.vjha55";p="35158 wrote:If any new comer like me is not heard and tolerated then this site will remain confined and restricted to few. Cant you encourage freedom of exprssion while steering the course of debate in desirable directon? I think you are being offensive beyond limit.
For this thread to have got so far, IS freedom of expression.
Any offense you perceive, came around as a result of your rather unsavory way of posting. Remember, no one called you names in the first place.
You are the one steering the debate(so called) in a pointless direction.
This forum is as close to a free-for-all as possible. There are however, certain basic skills in human decency and decorum that is expected of everyone, regardless of the rules.
As a new comer you're more than welcome. It's unlikely you'll get kicked out for farting but I must say the stench is offensive.
You'll also be surprised how many wheel gun owners and advocates there are on this board- they are nowhere as jaundiced as you.
So, my dear friend, continue your lonely night long vigil over this thread, waiting to instantly pounce on any post that dares to appear on the thread. As for me, I have a life to live, and I need to catch some sleep.
Goodnight.

You are right, I started with requirement for pistol. But reason why gave up idea of owning a pistol was prcisely what I have been arguing for.
So far as issue of budget is concerned, you allocate a sum for a purpose in proportion of return.
In fact why I am taking my time to discuss this issue is that I have gone in favour of revolver and I want to see what others think by going through this debate.
Let me tell you an example of how sincerely I dislike Pistol--------I have appied for refund of payment made to Cossipore Kolkata.
Have applied for Revolver to GFK kanprur and purchased a Webley & Scot revolver in the mean time as new revolver collection date is 10th march 08. Where do you see any inconsistency or misuse of forum? In fact it is a clear case of despotism of few.

If you just take the trouble to read your own posts you maybe able to fathom why people got upset with your postings... A gentle hint - it has NOTHING to do with pistols or revolvers and which is better/ safer.... think!
Cheers!

Re: no pistol, only revolver
Hey guys......dont want to add fuel to fire...being an engg, handguns have interested me as a machine....i think the pistol has evoved over the years and has sustained itself......
i picked up this magazine(book, not a pistol mag) at KL airport.....it was a mag dedicated to the 1911..... one of the articles was a comparison of the 1911 and the 1911A1..... one point that comes to my mind is....both the guns went thru around 2000 rounds, without a single jam.....

Thanks for bringing this point up, I'd completely forgotten about power. A pistol will actually make more power than an equal barrel length revolver shooting the same cartridge. The reason for this is -vjha55";p="35168 wrote:Dear Abhijit,
25% of energy of a shot of pistol is used in load the next bullet. Does it not reduce pistol"s strike power?
Excepting for a few (rare) revolvers, the overwhelming majority of them have a small gap between the cylinder and the barrel. In a revolver the chamber is in the cylinder, or to be more precise there each one of the slots in the cylinder is a chamber wherein the cartridge will be fired and from which it will propel the bullet forward through the barrel. When a cartridge is fired, the rapidly expanding gases from the burning powder propel the bullet forward - these escaping gases (from the gap) cause a loss of power.
In the case of a pistol, the chamber is actually part of the barrel itself, ensuring that gases do not escape from the sides and providing maximum power. From where did you get the 25% energy loss figure??!! Could you please point me to the source...
Cheers!

jha, you seemed to have just crawlwd out from the primordial ooze...
If you have calculated a very precise figure of 25% as the energy lost due to cycling of the action in a semi auto handgun, i'm sure you can also calculate the figures called muzzle velocity and muzzle energy?
How many pistols have you fired? matter of fact, how many rounds have you fired from your 32 revolver? a single center body mass connect from a 45 will knock you off your feet, even after losing 25percent in cycling the action-compare that to the pipsqueak 32.
If you are so knowledgeable about handguns, how come you posted an enquiry for a concept gun-Glock in 32...sour grapes indeed.THIS IS NO DEBATE, MORE LIKE SOUR GRAPES, BECAUSE GLOCK WONT MAKE YOU YOUR DREAM GUN IN 32 AND EVEN IF THEY DID , YOU CANT AFFORD IT-stick to your 'brand new ' design (circa 1897 webley/enfield)revolvers and come back when you havent smoked your finger nail clippings

Between the IOFB made Ashani .32 ACP pistol and the IOFB made .32 revolver - there is NO CONTEST. The IOF revolver is a much better buy - because it has fewer inherent flaws! The IOFB pistol can be made to function properly and reliably but to do that you will have to spend a sweet amount of money on gunsmithing costs...vjha55";p="35165 wrote:I have appied for refund of payment made to Cossipore Kolkata.

If someone chooses to act a despot and arbitrarily brand something as the best. He's most welcome.vjha55";p="35165 wrote: In fact it is a clear case of despotism of few.

Let that be his holy grail.
Sorry for going OT, but as the popular saying goes,
" Zindagi Sirf Mohabbat Nahin Kuch Aur Bhi Hai
Zulf-o-Rukhsaar ki Jannat Nahi Kuch Aur Bhi Hai
Bhookh Aur Pyaas ki Maari Hui Is Duniya Mein
Ishq Hi Ek Haqeeqat Nahin Kuch Aur Bhi Hai. "
I'll leave you in your Utopian paradise, not cuz I hate revvies, in fact they got me started on my way to loving Guns. My grandfather who was in the police used to have one, loved that as a kid.But I love all guns and choose not to discriminate between them. They're all beautiful to me. I choose not to exercise any kind of prejudice against them.
Anyways, enough of this, kudos on your recent acquisition of a Webley, and your upcoming acquisition of an IOF.Have fun and be safe.
Cheerio

The universe was born with a BIG BANG, no wonder guns run in my blood.

If this had been a fair revolver Vs auto debate, as has been going on since a century, a fresh resurgence would have been welcome. But listening to the ranting of an UNINFORMED,anally retarded dyslexic- :
get your self a tetanus toxoid shot -costs Rs.2.50/ will definitely save your life...vjha55";p="35165 wrote: So far as issue of budget is concerned, you allocate a sum for a purpose in proportion of return.

Isnt it smart to get same return by spending less? But you seem to be misinterpreting it.
