Browning out Glock in for UK military

Yes and no.
When WW2 broke out and it became obvious that the German's would overrun Europe, the plans for the P35 were sent to England by FN in Belgium. From there they were sent to Canada, where they were made by the John Inglis and Co in Toronto. Thus the Inglis Hi Power was born. The Indian 9mm is a copy of the Inglis Hi Power. They were known in Commonwealth service as "Pistol No 2 Mk 1".

As an aside: when the Germans invaded Belgium they took over the FN factories and thus the HiPower was used by both the Axis side and the Allies.

So the English have also decided to holster plastic! Perhaps if we are to associate our age with a metarial just like Stone age, Bronze age, Iron age and so on then we are definately living in the Plastic age or Hydrocarbon age.

Interestingly I heard some news about the present American Administration putting in place a ban on handgun magazines carrying anything more than 7 rounds. I wonder what effect will this have on the relentless march of modern high-cap polymer pistols.

Will Glocks still be as attractive if they carry only 7 rounds? Does it indicate a market shift back to the 1911 design or perhaps even another golden age of the Revolver?

The reason for the British army adopting the Glock 17 is simple economics - the Glock is considerably less expensive than the HP35. As regards durability ..... dunno. The polymer frame won`t lose it`s finish like the Browning but reliability has never been an issue with the HP35. As regards news reports on firearms generally you have to remember that like the Ministry of Defence, the media hasn`t got a clue about armaments AND they like to sensationalise any/everything they can.

Dear Moin & xl,
The iof 9mm is a copy of Browning under TOT (transfer of technology ). 9mm Glock is with SF units, NSG and IPS officers ( can be seen in Punjab, UP ) Few learned members advocate for INSAS when compared to other ARs, so Indian Armed Forces ( regular Army ) are not even found fit to handle it.
