This may sound like a silly question - but somewhere on this forum I saw a reference to 0.22 air rifles "being confiscated" in the UK, Is that true? Is it really happening or just a load of crock.

Ah thanks, that explains it In the 80s I used to shoot a Weihrauch 0.22 out in the open in England. More innocent days. But the 12 fpe limit was in force even back then.
