Yes, the green one looks better. However, there is some sort of smudge on both sides of the scales. For some reason, all three Barkies I have bought to date have come with some sort of minor imperfection.

The good news is that the green handled one feels better in the hand.
Here's why...

The heel on the black one has a straight line with a bit of scale on either side of the tang. I found this to be distracting. In the case of the green handled one, the scales have been machined so as to meet the tang at the heel with the barest possible width. This tiny difference makes a world of difference in how the knife sits in the hand.

Incidentally, BRK have started delivering the Magnum Fox River to their distributors. I am thinking of getting one and piggybacking the Mini Fox River onto it. If it works for me, I will sack the CDPH and Canadian Special (yet to receive). What do you think?

In my opinion instead of piggybacking a 6.65" knife on another 9.85" blade (magnum) why not go in for the regular Fox River and just carry one. The difference is not so great as we are not discussing the same proportions as the RC-6 and the Izula.

I do like the green handles of the new CDPH over the black but if you speak about sacking it then I am all for it. While I feel it is a good knife but somehow I am not very attracted to it.

I like the Fox over it and although not a regular blade shape but the Canadian is interesting too. Will not let out the verdict until I have handled one though.

Having just the Fox River makes sense but I am primarily a small knife guy. Even if I don't piggyback a small knife, I'd feel undressed without one on my belt or in my pocket. Good suggestion though. Will have to give this some thought.

The Canadian Special intrigues me. Having stropped the Laser Strike, I know it will be a very easy knife to strop. Incidentally, if you look closely at the LS, it too has a bow back spine but to a lesser degree. Whilst I dislike finger grooved handles, I am told this one feels very good in the hand. The one I ordered (again green canvas micarta and red liners ) was sent back to BRK by the dealer as it wasn't ground correctly near the plunge line. Still waiting for its return.

Hi Mack The Knife i have a question where did you buy the bark river in Bangalore are they selling it in store or did you buy it online... Even i am also from bangalore and i just wanted to know if we are able to buy online from USA and ship it to India and is there customs??? Knifes are so expensive here in Australia even leathermen cost twice the USA price here even though the doller is almost the same..AUD 5 cent more than USD...

They were bought online from the U.S.. You will need to pay customs duty irrespective of whether you import it into India or Oz.

I magnified the pic above to match the drawing of the Mini to the actual Mini and then scaled off the following dimensions for the Magnum:

Point to plunge line : 6 3/8"
Point to handle : 6 5/8"
Width: 1 3/8"

I have asked for the specs and should know sometime this week.

OAL: 11" (11.75")

Blade length: 6.25" (6.5" total / 5.75" cutting edge)

Thickness: .190" (.188")

Same here. I personally prefer the smaller blades too. I find the sizes close to the Esee-3 very convenient. The current favorite now being the smaller Izula-II, probably will get a couple more in this size range.

The usual knife I carry is a small SAK but there are additions to this depending on where I am and what the plans for the day are.

I cross checked again and the 9.85 length I had mentioned earlier was probably incorrect. You were referring to the Magnum Fox River and I confused it with the Magnum Fox River Hunter which is longer than the regular Fox River but smaller than the Magnum Fox.

The dimensions I was able to get for the Magnum Fox River are:

Overall Length: 10 1/8"
and
Blade Length: 5 7/8"

The other difference I noted in the model I had seen was that the lanyard hole was drilled through the handle scales like regular knives and there was no extended tang with the lanyard hole.



People, some sites and even the BRKT site add to this confusion by not differentiating (seems to be a difference) between the Magnum and the Magnum "Hunter". They just call it the "Fox River Magnum". The FRM Hunter I think was first launched in 2008 and is 9.875" long overall.

The Model # in both cases is BA230 without the suffix based on the handle material etc. Confusing!

Rajat, your earlier dimensions were correct but they were for the 2008 Prototype. BRK did not make a MFR after that until now.

The specs I posted for the first production run MFR are from my dealer. He has pre-ordered one for me but with no obligation on my part to buy it should I not want to. As if I could resist!

The more I use my Mini, the more I like it. If my dealer's information is correct and the Magnum has a 6"+ blade then I am most probably going to get it and will sell off the CDPH and Canadian Special.

You always wanted one and it's time you pulled the trigger on a Fox River - mini or regular. This is one knife you will enjoy using.

BTW, there is going to be a very limited run of 100 Little Creeks in CPM154. Very tempted by this.

Thanks for the clarification. What I still have not been able to understand is that I have seen the Magnum with two different specifications: Overall length: 9.875 ( available and in stock, also known as the Fox River Magnum Hunter) and the other one being 10 1/8" long (not in stock).

Pretty confusing. BRKT has to do a better job with making the specifications etc known prior to the launch like many others.

You are right. I have always been interested in the Fox River (Regular or mini) or the North star (Regular or Companion). I think the blade geometry is better on the Fox but somehow I like the Northstar too. It always happened that I bought some other knife or stuff on priority instead of either

What are your views: Northstar or the Fox and A2 or 3V ?

Do not know much about A2 but have some experience with the 3V and its good.

CPM 154 is considered to be good. Better than the 154 CM which I consider to be pretty decent. Strider is also doing small runs of the SMF and the SNG using CPM 154 too.

As for the knife (Little Creek)at approx. 3" handle length I think you will only get a three finger grip which might be OK. I do not have very large hands but I like to get a comfortable and full grip om my knife handles. I am usually very particular about it and when ordering online, without having handled it, play with rulers, tape measures etc to get an idea of the blade and handle size before finalizing.
