Grooves done in the scales

Nice, but they bite! Some smoothing the edges of the grooves is in order...

They don't really, but the handle is now super grippy Still lot of mods pending and the ones completed. Personally I am finding the blade hideous Will have to do some damage control

Thank you Rajat, the damasucs re-etch for me was quite interesting. Good to know these blades can be sharpened razor sharp and the jauhars brought back by just dipping the blade in acid...

Completed the other side as well, hated how the first scale looked, so using a portable torch burnt and removed the scale and did a Corian one.

The damascus blades can be sharpened razor sharp. I do not know the new blades as I know the old faulad blades.

The complete sword blade (faulad or sankela) could be buffed to a shiny finish and then the jauhars are brought up. I have seen old swords restored many a times from scratch and it was always very interesting.

Looking forward to seeing the new scales on your knife!

Used a stone bit in the rotary tool to get a rough forge finish on the blade. Kept tapping teh surface in a woodpecker like fashion.











This goes into the acid bath again to etch the dimpled portions and will then use a 1000 grit polish paper to buff the raised portions.

Used the stone bit with the rotary tool to try and get a fancy pattern on the tang before the handle slabs are installed. Have yet to use a fine grit emery paper to smoothern the edges and polish it up.

Started with small grooves at the side of the tang and the tool was rotated slightly to get the wavy pattern.











I am pretty pleased with the way the blade has turned out.

Added some jimping on the spine, looks unfinished, will be finished with emery paper at a later date.

Thank you so much Marthandan, I personally like a bit of jimping, adds character to the blade, have also rounded off the choil with a file, the edge used to dig into the fingers on choking up...

Thanks for the appreciation, specially coming from a master bladesmith like yourself Marthandan You inspired the khujli in me for these DIY jobs.

BTW what happened to the Nitric Acid bottles the cat had dragged in Waiting for your khukri project !!

Some progress and experimenting

Portable Butane Torch and Corian, trying to get a weathered look on the corian. Did it all over but can be done over the edges of the scales.











The cracks are just barely above the surface. A piece of metal can be kept on the scales and some interesting patterns done The cracked finish takes up a very good [polish with 1200 grit emery paper !!

Scales cut and made symmentrical using a rolled wet 60 grit emery cloth as a file Instead of doing a full scale made a cut out for the tang with the lanyard hole.









And a bit of buffing done on the blade

The knife's complete and I am very pleased with teh way it has turned out. Hope you all like it as well, lot's and lot's of elbow grease and a lot of experimenting Successfully installed brass pins on the handles

The handle slabs are kept much thicker than the original which were flush with the guard. I flared it at the centre so it would be comfortable to hold and tapered it towards the guard and the pommel.
