In the ESEE line up, the handles are the same on the 3 and 4 and on the 5 and 6.

The custom G10 scales for the 4 have palm swells and are longer, where as the standard factory scales, irrespective of material, are flat.

The three custom scales have cost a little over $200.00, inclusive of postage. The 4 needs them the most, the 6 somewhat and the Izula-II not at all. I was thinking of selling them and putting the money into another knife but I have been having second thoughts.

Yes, the top screw, on the edge side of the sheath, is used to adjust retention. The one opposite it, is a spare.

I know it does not make any logical sense to get the 4 when you have a 3 but I am very certain that you will like it a lot and wouldn't be surprised if you prefer it to the 3.

Since you were the culprit who made me get the 5, I thought it was only fair I repay the compliment.

Between either of the Izulas and the Candiru, I would start with the Izulas first. If you have largish hands, the Izula-II would be the better option.

Have you reprofiled the edge on the Izula?
Mack The Knife, the Izula does not need any re-profiling. I have rarely seen such good edgecraft (that is a new word, coined by me). You are a master of the craft. Thank you for the little fellow. I am very fond of the chap :)

I still have a long way to go before I can convex an edge really well. That is, with more or less equal angles and depth on both sides. Getting better at it but not yet satisfied.

I forgot to touch-up the edge before packing your Izula-II but B told me not to worry as you were very good at that.

Do you have a strop? If you don't, you could make a double sided strop and I can send you some black (3000 grit) and green (6000 grit) compound.

You can also use finer grit wet&dry from 3M on a mouse pad or book.

Mack The Knife, you are being modest. The edge on the Izula II is really very authoritative. The angles and depth are very balanced. And yes...Would be really nice to get the black and green compound. I have been meaning to make my own strop for sometime and your encouragement just set the ball rolling :)

Yours was done the slow way, so it may look more even. However, I now prefer using Kylie's (cKc) way which is much faster and I still need to master this.

For everyone who wants to put a convex edge on his knives, watch this video -

Watch his other videos as well. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... .0.0...0.0.

PM me your name, address and phone number and I will courier it on Wednesday.

Guess we are even now

Thanks again for the details.

Noted about the preference for the Izula II over the Candiru. It will be the II and not the earlier version, not that I have very large hands but I always appreciate a large handle and comfortable grip.

Here's the 5. Have also posted a spine shot pic of the 5 and 3 to show just how much excess weight one could end up carrying.

What A Whopper!! :D

The thickness at the spine I think will be .250" or 1/4" = 6.35 mm.

Did not go for the Esee 4 as did not see any advantage of it over the 3. Got this instead. Comfortable to hold in spite of the small size. Well designed.

Superb decision!
I am seldom without one. It is my most used ESEE.
Very well designed and it does not need any fancy custom scales either.

Hi Mack The Knife

Just wanted to know where did u get ur "Hoonglas"..... cz i think its 11 inches (blade length), and 9 inches by 2 inches is the limit for knives i believe!!!

And do we need a special permit to keep such knives??

PS really love this blade!

Bullrick,

I am not at liberty to reveal the dealer's name as he has been scammed in the past and is not comfortable posting anything to certain countries unless he knows the buyer personally.

The Junglas has a 10" blade. I do not know if a special permit is required to import but I did not have any problems with customs on this. However, you import at your own risk.

Mine is strictly meant for field use and nothing else. The only difference between the Junglas and a locally made chopper is that the former is better made otherwise it is no different to what a villager would use to clear brush, etc.

The problems arise when Rambo wannabes carry such knives in their cars, etc. and brandish them in public. So long as you use them responsibly, I do not think the police will trouble you.

Mack The Knife.

thanx for the reply Mack The Knife...

So if i want to order it lets say from knife center, i can?

cz i thot the customs officials check whether the blade is more than 9 inches or not....and if it is they sieze it.

may be if you have some time, you can letme know briefly when do they detain a knife? its not there in the legal eagle section and i am pretty new to importing sharpies.

Regards
Billrick

I am not going to answer any more such questions as I don't want you or someone else to loose their knife to customs. If you still want to take a gamble, go ahead and do so.

What I would recommend is an ESEE-6. It is a very versatile knife.
