Personally I like Benchmade folders over many others, it is one of my favorite brands. I am sure that you will be happy with the purchase. Although I do not own a Griptillian (yet ) but know that it is a folder trusted by many and probably the best selling one from all that Benchmade offers.

Moin, ensure you wipe out the excess wd40, else it picks up all kinds of dirt over time especially around the pivot.

I use wd40 only when the entire knife is rinsed with water - wd40 around the pivot displaces the excess water. If you are not rinsing it dont use wd40. A needle head amount of machine oil around the pivot and the blade is gtg.

I personally find that WD40 tends to be better with folders than machine oil with its thick viscosity, Singer machine oil tends to gather more gunk than WD40. Secondly I don't EDC these knives. I'm very happy with my trysty Victorinox Bundershwehr which has served me faithfully for many years. Also the air where I stay in Mumbai is more corrosive given that the creek area was a dumping ground before some portion of it being reclaimed. The content of corrosive elements like Sulphur etc is very high, I've had AC and Fridge gas leaks, electronics cirucits literally corrode in my LCD and music system. In my previous organisation(office was very near where i stay), the facility management team almost spent close to 40 lacs a month on special air filters that were installed in AHU's that reduced the content of these elements to a great degree. Before the installation of these filters the number of computer circuits board & componenet failures was very high.

I use coconut oil on my swords and fixed blades as recommended by Katanaji somewhere in this forum and WD40 on the folders and try & store them in zip lock bags. But again these folders are modern steels which are obviously more corrosion resistant, I just try and be careful. Since the Gripi's brand new, the Axis lock is a bit stiff. Want to free it up a bit.

Thank you Rajat. I'm absolutely ecstatic over the purchase The materials, the finish quality is way above what I previously owned. I've lusted after the Griptilian for some time now, did'nt have the $$ when Amar was selling his H20. This baby is an absolute DroolMaal way hotter than the other beauties. I've got the Sypderco Military (the plain edge black finsih blade & digi camo pattern ) to pick and then my thirst for these blades will be quenched

Rajat, only god and you know what you have in your collection, have had a glimpse of the ZT & the Extrema Ratio Shrapnel in some of the previous post. Going by these two puppies I can only guess (that's green with envy) Roll it out, let's see those lustworthy blades mate !!

Moin,Tuf Cloth, Marine Tuf Cloth and Tuf Glide are the way to go. I have pushed my folders to the limit in terms of neglect and abuse and not a spot of rust. Have coated all my weapons with the same and the results are excellent. I personally avoid WD40 on my knives, otherwise use it as a general household maintenance spray. Other option is good old Singer Oil but that's messy. Avoid ziplock bags but rather keep the folders in a good plastic box with a packet of Silica Gel. Do remember to renew the Silica gel periodically. The advantage of Tuf Cloth is that once it dries you can use the blade as normal. The protection continues. Procuring your blade is only half the battle, protecting your investment is the other half.

Hi Yaj; Thank you. These are really well built knifes. The only nagging point that I see is the steel used. For pricing purposes at least an 8Cr13Mov should have been used for the blade. At USD 90 MRP, steel for the blade should have been better.

I was at Lohar Chawl and checked out a few 0.25 HP Bench Frinders, two were Chinese Make and One Indian"Vijay". There was another very small one with a flex shaft attatchment and small 3" wheel. Will a 3" wheel be useful for stock removal on billets. Are polishing cotton wheels available in 3" size"

I am not aware of the availability of 3 " cotton wheels mate.That part of town is the best place for all these sort of things.So if you dont get them there it is unlikely to get them in other parts of Mumbai.
Did you see any grinders with a a combo of a disc on one side and a belt on the other side? That would be the ideal combination for any knife maker.The belt grinders are supposed to be great for convexing the blade edges.

Hi Yaj; I did not see any bench grinders with belts, all the ones that I saw either a grinding wheel or a buffing cotton wheel could be attatched to the spindle. I have a major space constraint in my house and therefore the mini 3" wheel one looked very tempting.

Moin...may i suggest that you opt for an angle grinder for bevel grinding. it gives you better control and the material removal rate is awesome(in the lower grits). the angle grinder has a couple of advantages over the bench grinder...
1.the side of the knife being ground using a bench grinder is away from you and hence you cant see the bevel shaping up. no such issues with the angle grinder.
2. the angle grinder provides more contact area between the knife blank and the disc. faster material removal rate.
3. flat grinding disc allows for flatter bevels to be made. definitely easier compared to the bench grinder (IMO).
4. its portable. all you need are a couple of "C" clamps to clamp the knife blank to any table.

I did review the tools at Lohar Chawl and an angle grinder at the moment seems most appropriate for my use. Will pick up a Dewalt one in a day or two.

Would like to know why you switched from the Angle Grinder to the Desk Grinder, Moinji. I am planning on getting a 100mm Angle Grinder for Beveling and Polishing. So, would like to know why you dropped that down.
