Gentlemen reviving this post. Got in touch with Khukri House. This is the ensuing correspondence.

Have asked them for a quote, let's ee how things pan out. The Khuks on the website are mouth watering

Thank you for the mail and im happy to inform you that 3-4 khukuris will not be a problem while carrying the khukuri through flight.And usually people travell through bus to India so if we get the people travelling through bus then we will send your roder through them.And if we get people travelling through flight then we will send through them.Our boss is travelling to Mumbai due to official work on miid of January so you may place an order if it is ok with you.

Can you please advice how the person will be carrying the Khuks from Nepal to India. As per the arms act no blades beyond 9” are permitted to be carried. Carrying this in a baggae in any airline will not be permitted and will be confiscated by the customs. Will the person be carrying this in train or bus ?

Hello;

I’ve gone through your website and I understand that you ship your blades to India as few of my friends have procured through the website. My understand is you have an SBI account where the money in INR can be transferred and then the Khukris can be shipped from Nepal. Is there a restriction on the size of import from Nepal if the blade size is more than 9”. Have you sent Khukri’s more than 9” to addresses in India( maybe keeping the blades unsharpened).

If so please advise on the modality of money transfer, the account details, lead times for shipping. Me and some of my friends would like to place a few orders immediately.

Thank you for the mail and im here to inform you that i have talked my boss and he says that in 18" Wooden Khukuri there may be maximum chances for the khukuri to be confiscated on Airport.So we would like to request you to reduce the size of the khukuri.PLease select the khukuri ranging from 10 inch to maximum 12 inch.Otherwise if the khukuri will be confiscated by the Airport police then our boss will leave the khukuri to them and will return back.So it will be better if you would reduce the size of the khukuris.PLease give me the list of khukuri ranging from 10-12 inch and then we shall forward you the full costing.

Gentlemen; Posting the experience and details here so it's easier for other knife enthusisast and collectors to place orders with Khukri House. Not possible for me to collate orders for all, have money for all transfferred to my account and manage the hassle of couriering it across pan india.

Moin, taking a trip to Nepal may be a better and cheaper option. Also costs on the website are directed to the international Market and thus would be higher. Remember you are paying in $$ and not Nepali rupees. When we travel there our currency is much stronger. I have visited Nepal and purchased from the Khukri house shop at Thamel. There are quite a few shops and you may also get to visit local craftsman producing stuff. This was years back when I was just out of college. At that time you could buy a leather man tool from a foreigner for less than Rs200/- cause they would sell off their stuff after the trek before heading back home.

@Moin. With great difficulty I restrained my urge to splurge on khukhuris and selected one from the several beauties on offer at Khukuri House. But now that you have resurrected the thread, I think I will add some more to my collection. I can't help feeling sorry for myself that I gave you the information and have now myself become a victim of fascination for these wonderful blades

@Bruno22. Yes, you are right. Getting the stuff from Nepal will certainly be easier on the pocket but it will be troublesome for one person to bring along three four of those blades in a single trip. Getting some small fixed blades or folders is one thing but khukuris is a totally different matter altogether. The khukuri's association with the Gurkhas and the bloody battles and skirmishes it was a part of, lends it a very brutal image, that of a killing weapon. It is also a human psychology that when people fear something because they cannot counter it, they develop a mental block. That maybe the reason why the sight of a khukuri, even a blunt souvenir (as happened with several of my friend who brought some from Nepal and Darjeeling during their treks) always evokes sniggers and a bit of scepticism from cops and airport officials.

As Khukries are a produce of Nepal, you need not pay any duty! Also most places that sell them are registered as local handicrafts houses. Just getting along the blades (under 9 inches) may be a problem but if you add in a few other handicrafts and other shopping you MAY get through without questions. Also you must insist on a bill and keep that with you. Anyways over 9 inches and your in trouble.

Understand where you are coming from Bruno, but finding the time off is a major problem. The last vacation in Rajasthan was after three straight years on the job without any breaks.
Secondly it will not be cheaper in any ways. You are like a kid in a candy store and want to buy anything and everything in sight and end up spending uncontrably  . I’ve experienced this before and I’m sure you go through the same dilemma in knife stores abroad. Exercising restraint in buying these there will be impossible, a few thousand for this and a few thousand for that, that’s nice as well…. And you’ve end up spending a substantial sum 
Lastly like you said it’s next to impossible getting these large khuks through customs. I was literally scared carrying back the little armory back from Rajasthan. These guys are willing to do it for a price and paying that small premium to mitigate these headaches and hassles I think is justifiable. The prices even at the dollar prices are not too bad, considering the cost of travel, stay etc.

That's interesting to know, I actually had money transferred to SBI Darjeeling Branch. Wonder if these are the outlets for KKHI.
