The most LETHAL handgun in India hmmmm.....I know IOF made trash.Can certainly be lethal to the shooter Especially the IOF .22 revolver.

What would be the most lethal combination of Pistol & Cartridges that a civilian can keep in India under licence ?

Since the .357 Magnum, the .45 (1911) & the .44 Magnum are technically NP bore weapons, either of them would make a great deterrent due to their sheer size and intimidation factor.

However, as others have written, the .44 Magnum is virtually unavailable, both in terms of the weapon itself and the ammo.

The .45 is a good choice as I understand that it is possible to find rounds for it.

THe .357 Magnum is an awesome weapon due to its stopping power coupled with extremely controllable recoil to quickly come back on target. However, getting enough ammo at a reasonable cost reamins the drawback. Frame preference should be the N-frame, as it is not only palm-filling, but also adds to its stability.

As far as ammo is concerned, hollow points would be my preference, subject to availability.

.45 ACP(Automatic Colt Pistol) is a PB.

45 Bore is PB in the whole country.

Strangely u can get a licence for it in Mumbai and the pistol is available with most gun shops there.

Another thing,caliber alone does not make a firearm lethal,rather it's the person weilding it that is more important.With a .357 mag you will never get the practise that is essential for anybody to enable him/her to use it effectively as .357 mag ammo is hard to come by and also very expensive when you do find any.

Guys. What is the argument about ? Handguns are only defensive weapons and used in absolute emergency when all other avenues are closed. You may have a cannon but you have to hit the target for it to be effective otherwise what good is it. When we talk about defensive weapons we are talking about close range shooting. You have to hit the vitals for it to count, whatever the calibre. From my point of view, a revolver is a much better option than a pistol in these type of situations as there are less chances of a malfunction. So, calibres do not make a lot of difference but the person behind the weapon does.

hi Arindam,

i don't think there's any arguement here, but more like an academic discussion. Purely hypothetical. Simply because the chances for any of us to really get in to a firefight are somewhat remote.

And i concur that there's no bigger variable than the individual holding the weapon. Practise makes perfect.
