thanks for the info mate. I did not know about cat-gut. I needed sinew to back the bow and not for string.
BTW I enquired about cat-gut in a medical shop, but found it must costly (Rs 90 for 85 cm of thread).
I have already ordered Dacron spool for making bow-string.

When I was about 11, he built me a bow that was backed with braided fishing line. For what it was, the backing worked quite well. If I needed to back a bow and was going to use a non-traditional material, I suspect an aramid fishing line like kevlar/Spectra would work quite well and would be my first choice.
