The National Geographic article posted mentioned a diesel powered jalopy called a jugard, of which there must be some number (judging from the way the article mentions them).
Because I'm always interested in anything called a "jalopy," I've searched Google, but I can't find a picture of one of these jalopies. Does anybody have a link or links to one?

jugaad - means some how manipulated - its also means innovation to make do with whats available. These are basically workshop made vehicles running on say diesel engine used for pumping waters in rural india - actually precursor to Nano car TATA's idea of making cheap vehcles

Thanks, Navi. They misspelled it in the article; no wonder I couldn't find anything!
I do like these sorts of vehicles! The stringent highway laws here prevent most of this from happening, but there are always opportunities!
BTW, they also have a nice little writeup on wikipedia, along with this picture -- this one is using a Lister Cold Start diesel! (those are wonderful engines, whether made in England or India!)
