My father died back in 2020, he had two firearms in possession , one of them (single barrel shotgun) was taken into police custody during the election period. He still had the handgun with him , till the time he died.

Given the situation with my family's safety , I have been trying to obtain a gun license for my mom and sister for the same weapon. But since I do not have any idea of how that works , I could really use some advice from you guys.
location : Guwahati, Assam.

Dear mate,
First you have to deposit your fathers weapon in a police station or a armoury shop, then You have to apply for New Arms licence before District Collector or DM , also you have to mention that your fathers weapon details , the procedures for enquiries are goes like new licence, they will consider your application, NDAL-ALIS website portal option is there for heir loom category for arms licence . But there is a reason for opportunities for priority to consider your application . After getting your licence you have to endorse your father weapon details in your licence book, I hope this will helpful to you.

Also you have to obtain NOC from other legal heirs, if applicable.

Attention is invited to the instructions contained in MHA’s
letter No. V-11019/23/95-Arms dated 28-02-1995 regarding
grant of licences to the legal heir of existing licensee, after the
death of the licensee or the licensee has attained the age of
70 years or had held the weapon for 25 years or more.
Normally, the scope of legal heirs is extended to husband,
wife, son & daughter. It has been decided to extend the
scope of legal heir ship to the son-in-law, daughter-in-law,
brother and sister of the existing licensee. Accordingly, the
applications for transfer of weapons from the said categories
of relatives of the licensee may also be considered subject to
other conditions stipulated in the said letter.

  In Hyderabad, those that are obtaining licenses on heirloom basis are not being granted any ammunition quota. The reason cited is, since the inheritance is on sentiment basis and the successor doesn't have an actual need for protection, there is no need for ammo   .

They have been on this path for a long time, making it more difficult by the day for licensees.
