I bought an IHP 35 about 18 months ago and have probably shot 1000 to 1500 pellets.

In its favour I will pointout that it is a powerful rifle - really powerful not the "cocking effort is large therefore powerful" type of rifle. It is also extremely accurate over a wide range of pellets. In fact, in comparison the Orion I have is nore fickle and works best with GSmith or Precipell. IHP 35 on the other hand is accurate with more brands of pellets. I had posted a review of this many moons ago.

But the IHP stated giving me minor problems a few months ago which has now blown up into a major breakdown. I can only put this down to poor manufacturing quality - because I have owned five other air rifles - some for over 20 years and have never faced such issues.

I had made a post about a loose lug that held the cocking lever to the underside of the barrel. This was a minor issue but I was lucky that the lug did not fall off and get lost.

A few months ago the metal piece with a hole to take the bolt from the trigger guard that holds the back of the receiver firmly within the stock came looose because of a weld failure. I ghad discussed that on here. I did an Araldite repair that lasted about 500 shots till yesterday.

Yesterday there was a further weld failure in the other metal piece that holds the side screws from the stock to fix the front of the receiver to the stock. This time both the front fixture and the back one (the one with the Araldite repair) came loose and the whole receiver and barrel came away from the stock. In addition the side screws had worn out their threads and were not holding properly.

I see poor quality control as a compromise made by IHP to keep price down in what is otherwise a great rifle to shoot - it is certanly the best after Precihole in India. But for a rifle to fail so badly after just one and a half years and about 1500 shots is disappointing. This time I will give it to a friend who is a gunsmith to sort it out for me.

Briha - I thought I would do it myself - but I have a friend (at the rifle association) who services weapons including air rifles. I trust him fully to tune it. My concerns revolve around the fact that news parts may need to be fashioned and this man will do a great job and tune it up to boot. Local gunsmith - no chance.

Yes, there was a problem in their spot welding system and I as a dealer had also pointed this complaint to them and then they were able to rectify that.

In newer ones, such complaints wan't come.

It is nice to note that they have rectified this defect in their present days production.

Will be a while before I get it back - but will update as soon as I do. In the meantime I am enjoying my Orion and SDB and my mouse hand is tempted to click on "Place Order" for the Scorpius...

IHP is in the process of completely overhauling their break barrel air rifles and in a couple of months time you will get to notice it.

Better late than never.

Heck did I say Scorpius? I meant that Gas Ram 0.22 whatever its name is.

Seal maybe. Spring no. The problem is that new parts may be required to be welded - that is why I gave it to a trusted friend rather than taking it to my local metalwork shop who does not have the required skills.
