I don't know if this topic exists - a search did not throw up anything detailed.
I read a couple of mentions about air pistol pellets being used in air rifles and vice versa! I wasn't aware that this classification existed!
Seniors - please shed some light on this subject.. What are the differences exactly, and the pros and cons of using one in the other - is this a deal breaker!?!
Secondly do the Indian manufacturers like GSmith and Mastershot etc have different Pistol and Rifle pellets within their existing lines/ranges? (their websites again made no mention)

No difference but for the weight. Pistols are underpowered compared to air rifles and spit out lighter pellets with better fps.

Well it goes like this
since air pistols have to attain around 480 fps in the short time they travel they are generally slightly smaller in diameter around the skirt
if you look at the match finale tins you will see the dia written on the bottom
Generally 4.47 to 4.5 are considered to be pistol pellets and the bigger ones for rifle
Now this difference is more critical if you are using a pistol where you seat the pellet with your hand ie break barrels Tau Baikal etcetera , less critical if you are using a pistol which seats the pellet with a pusher or a bolt actually engaging the seat of the skirt before the shooting takes place , whereas in the older models the pellet had to first expand into its seat before being propelled so as to attain a good seal
Using wrong size deal breaker only at national level target shooting and above
Mastershot in his newest series of target pellets has brought out both pistol and rifle pellets as he asked last week when we ordered in bulk
the info is not on his website contact the factory and they will send it to you by post
