Rajat wrote:The BK 5 / Magnum is a good solid knife, all Beckers are and they are value for money. Becker is probably the brand which has the highest number of mods carried out on its various models specially the BK2, BK5, 7 & 9. Some people just buy the knives to use the blades for blanks and be creative. All in all Ethan Becker's knives are trusted by many and I think are among the highest sold production knives in the world.
An interesting fact is that the handles of all of the above mentioned models are the same and the same Micarta grips KABK77HNDL (or any other) fit them all. Even the Machax.
The Micarta handles sure look good and even I thought in the beginning that they will improve the grip and so bought them.

But they are as slippery as the standard Grivory. This was just said to compare the two and the Grivory handles are not really slippery.
The BK5's in the above pictures of the mods with the hole at the base of the blade ( choil ) are the older Beckers made by Camillus and it was before KaBar started making them.
That was an excellent and in depth review of the BK5 Moin. Thanks for the same. Just one more thing to be added "Full tang ending into a large skull crusher/glass breaker with a nice and large lanyard hole" The protruding tang will be good enough as a skull crusher (it will definately work)and as a glass breaker but you if notice it is flat and plain surface meant to take hammering and be used if you need to hammer the thing in to something.
Well here is an interesting link from bladeforum on Becker Mods:

Enjoy!
So what will we see now after the current Khukri Project? I wonder
Trust me with thisMoin. wrote:I am surprised you say that about the Micarta handles. I've seen Slingshot's Essee Izula with Micarta handles and I felt it offered better traction than Grivory. But I've not seen the Kabar ones, maybe the stippling/hatching/texturing on the Essee's is better.
Will try and make my own first, the Micarta Grips are about USD 38 + Shipping. i.e expensive
Wise guy
How workable is Micarta ? Is it possible to stipple/hatch micarta like G10 for better traction ? If the Micarta handles are slightly thicker than the Grivory ones these would be too big for my hands, the Grivory ones themselves are a handful...Rajat wrote:Trust me with thisMoin. wrote:I am surprised you say that about the Micarta handles. These just have a very light sand blasted texture which has again been polished off to look "nice n finished". There are contours on the micarta slabs on the middle edges / either side of the tang but these are not of much help. The inner sides which go against the tang have a very polished and smooth finish, I guess this is meant so the knives may be easily cleaned when taken apart and dirt / water may not easily stay trapped inside during use.
Like I said I also bought these thinking that these offered a much better grip but no! It is surprising indeed as micrata usually offers some traction (personally I like G10 better in comparison to other man made materials) but in this case not much, maybe its got to do with the shape and size of the handle.
Before I forget, not that it makes a big difference, these Micarta handles are slightly thicker than the Grivory. Based on the size of their hands some may like it others may not.
The Izula has a very small handle as compared to the Beckers so we arn't exactly comparing apples to apples here.
Waiting to see your additions to the Becker Mods lineup
