Was checking out an alternate barrel and I thought a 204 would be ideal? Somebody slap me quick-its 500 bucks and a 6 mo wait! I can get a decent Howa 1500 204 for that money
wrt the Stevens -Pillared and action bedded, scope oomphed on with the dednutz, she's doing about an inch at 200m now.Incredible for a factory rifle with some chatter marks in the bore, and a dash of gunsmithing by a derelict gun wh*%e like me

Asif: I could see a .204 in one of these. Too bad they do not offer the chambering. I am guessing that, to keep the costs low, they just have a .22 barrel and chamber it in .223 or .22-250. Then the only issue is changing the bolt head.

What are you shooting at with it now?

I have been trying to work out a West Texas prairie dog hunt. For this, I would like to have a rifle such as your Stevens, and I'd also like to work up on of my Mosin Nagants in .45-70. I'd use the .45-70 strictly with cast bullets and black powder (Pyrodex). This would be just for fun. The "varmint" gun would be the serious thing.

However, your question has prompted something in my mind -- I will start another thread on it.

Dont knock the savage rifles.. they will surprise you a lot. But they do foul a lot. Try KG-1 and KG-12.
Timmy: I shoot the .45-70 with 475 grain bullets and about 65 grains of FFFG Swiss.. the rifle does kick like a mule. I also shoot it with smokeless (N-120) with 300, 405 and 475 grain bullets. I do keep my velocities at around 1200 fps since I shoot this at 100 M. It is accurate and it will beat on you.
