What would be the best way to carry a handgun while driving. For obvious reasons one would like to have easy and quick access to the weapon if and when required. Fellow members kindly throw some light on this aspect which am sure many members would appreciate.

Great functionality there . . .

There is something to keep in mind.
You DO NOT want your gun to be easily visible if a casual passerby looks into your car. For example, you are stopped at a stop light and the guy in the next car over glances over and sees your gun...or you are stopped by a cop and he looks in and sees the pistol in plain view.

You are better off having the pistol in a location where it is hidden from view by your leg/s, when you are seated in the drivers seat, or if it is in the center console. It should still be easily accessible.

Not having a handgun, I may not be qualified to reply, but I feel your right- or left-handedness, and the right- or left-handedness of the traffic in your location will also matter.

A right handed person in a country where traffic moves on the left (UK or India) would need to have the gun on his right - actually on the door! This would not only make it vulnerable to accidents, where the gun might be visible when stepping out of the car, or fall off altogether, it is also not conducive for a quick draw. I have tried with my pepper spray, it is really tough to get in action fast. A cross draw shoulder holster might work, but in India in might mean wearing a jacket at 40 degrees! The same thing would apply to a southpaw in the US.

All the pics above are of left-hand drive cars - probably USA, with traffic on the right. The "middle of the legs" is a good option, as you can change the orientation of the gun as per your preference. Of course, you are sitting on the strap and the fastener - might like to look at some cushioning!
