Hi IFGians,
I would like to share images of my IOF Ashani which i bought in early 2007 and got it modified from Jaswant Singh & Co. at Amritsar in 2008. It's been 5 years since the modification done to it but still it looks pretty neat, a job well done by them i must say. Actually the modification is merely cosmetic I remember when I bought this pistol from Gun and Shell factory at Cossipore it wasn't one of the most attractive looking pistol but I was highly excited as it was my first firearm. But it looked terrible all brown some glossy shade with cheapest possible grips. Then one fine day I learned about these guys at Amritsar who made the Ashani look pretty , what they did is put two tone colour look on it, a silver and did bluing on the slide, trigger and grip safety and boy what a job well done also they got a beautifully made grip out of rosewood with a thumb rest and a ventilated rib on top of slide. They exceeded my expectation when i got the pistol after the work done to it.
I would not lie but initially I doubted the durability of the work done by them that how long would it last, Its been 5 years since I got the work done the pistol is in absolute fine shape. I have fired no less than 400-500 rounds from it in the last 5 years the bluing took the heat well. So i thought it would be interesting to share the pics.
Another aspect of ashani that I have when it came with the brown glossy colour (I think that was the first year they started it) its brown thing started chipping from ends only after a year. It's really sad what a gunsmith can do an ordanance factory of the country can't or they don't have the will for it maybe they are least bothered.
Regards
Raman
