I saw an episode of Triggers, where the concluded that .45ACP has better stopping power than 9mm handguns.

FYI, stopping power here means the ability to stop the person charging towards you.

So, .45 guns seemed to be great for self defense.
But, here, on IFG, its written " .45 ACP (rimless) is prohibited"

So, two questions,

1. What other types of .45 handguns are available in Indian markets, if there are any?

2. Which will be the best substitute ?

Two powerful handgun cartridges are .357 magnum and .44 magnum.

.45 are tremendously rare, i doubt any one sells new ones.You might find a very expensive used berreta or 1911.

A .44 mag is prohibited i think. .357 or 10mm auto have knockout power.

.45ACP is PB. .44 is not. As a result, 1911s in .45 are not expensive compared to NPB ones.

Why do you think .45ACP is an overkill in India?

What .44 is not prohibited ? Just like .357 isnt but .38 is..

PB pistols and revolvers are cheap compared to NPB folks typically give them away or surrender to Police - my family did. Issue is getting a license - its easy for defense, police, folks with pull to acquire a license UNLESS its a family heirloom that can be passed down to descendants.

Not sure who hard or easy it is to get 45 or 9 mm ammo in India? I am sure IOF doesnt make 45 ammo and there 9mm sucks anyway

Best substitute is the 7.62x25 Tokarev cartridges. They are great penetrators and are available in North India.

We are talking about stopping power.If 9mm Luger lacks stopping power,the 7.62 Tokarev is going to be worse.

For stopping a person, you need to carve a bigger hole in body.
I guess, it doesnt matter, if bullet passes through or remains in the body.. it should make a big hole in body

I'm sorry i got that mixed up. .45 are overkill because they blow a hole, lots of blood.Too much.

Perhaps a .44 mag or .454 casull should give you the power you are looking for, If you can afford one.But a .357 is your most logical choice.

Let me get this straight- .45 ACP draws too much blood but a .357 Mag is ok,perhaps because it draws just the right amount of blood

BTW .45 ACp pistols are plenty in the market.Lots of sellers and not enough buyers and until the chaps in Mumbai decided to start entering them illegally as NPB pistols,could be had for 15-20,000/-. Now one entered as a PB pistol sells for 60-70,000/-

Both the .44 Mag and the .454 Casull, in general, generate significantly more muzzle energy than the .45 ACP.

Stopping someone is a matter of shot placement, not caliber. If you can't shut down the central nervous system or break the pelvis, you won't immediately stop a determined perp.

He wanted an answer, .357 is the only one that fits as you will agree.

If .45 s go so cheap, might ge me a nice 1911 one of these days.

stopping of assailant takes places when there is immediate loss of blood pressure due to rupture of major artery or vein. Immediate stopping of BG also takes place when central nerves system is hit. Unless a major blood vessel is hit or central nervous system is hit the BG continues to pose danger. So the stopping power of larger bores is not all that significant. Human heart when hit does not make any distinction between .32 or .45. Rather than bore it is accurate placement of shot which is more important.. Whatever applies to animal hunting applies to humans also when they are hit with a bullet. Military history records numerous instances of soldiers surviving dozens of body hits by rifle bullets and yet fighting on to kill the enemy.
