.500 S&W Magnum , jammed cylinder - squib load

Gentlemen ,

I found this on THR .
It appears that the primer did ignite and pushed the bullet just enough to engage the rifling but not enough to travel down the barrel significantly. The powder appears to be partially burnt as well. I can only imagine the outcome had the bullet traveled down the barrel, became stuck, and then I fired another round of full house .500 S&W Magnum !
Moral of the story? Always, Always, Always check the gun after a misfire!

Sounds like that was reloaded ammo for a commercial reloader. As others stated in the post, factory ammo always comes in a box. The fact that it was bagged, seems to indicate that it originated from a commercial reloader. While most commercial reloaders produce good serviceable ammo, it is possible that their quality control is not as good as the name brand boxed-ammo manufacturers.
One advantage of reloaded ammo is the cost. That might have been why the OP purchased the reloaded ammo.

Handloads tailored to your gun will always outperform factory ammo.

If a bullet gets lodged in the barrel, it is fairly simple to remove. Use your cleaning rod without a brush etc from the muzzle end to tap it out.

I have had to do it on occaison when I have been stupid.
