If I would be in your place and had narrowed down to .32 bore pistol only, I would have gone for .32 ACP Ashani pistol rather than spending money on some "foreign" brand. It is available from IOF at around Rs 85,000. After purchasing that pistol, I would have spend few thousand more on it to get it improved/refined by Bobby Sidhu located in your town.

If I had kept my options open and not limited to a particular bore, then I would have preffered the following pistols in order of preference based on their decreasing ballistics:
1) 7.62x25 mm Tokarev
2) 7.63x25mm Mauser
3) .32 ACP
There is no yardstick about the price of "foreign" made pistols in India. It is your bargaining skills and the willingness of the seller to accept the price quoted by you.

hi, its a long wait for iof pistol ,nearly 2yrs.i ,suggest you go for cz,llama, beretta, walther all these cost quiet a lot, depends on your budget.or you could buy any gun for the sake of licence and apply for iof pistol.once you get iof pistol, you can sell the older gun.hope this helps.gudluck.

Bhullar bhai still serving the faujj or left,if still serving apply to COD Jabalpur and you could get a .30 ( 7.62) Pistol for about Rs 800/-,it might be a Darra ripoff but if you have someone in the Ordi, just tell him to have it checked, there are a cpl of hundred pistols lying at Jabalpur, some are the TT,original ones .

Capt. Bhullar,

I presume that you want a .32 pistol for self/home defence and not competitive sport. What is your budget if I may ask ?

Sanjay, the waiting period is also based on a lot of guidelines,:
1.For officers above the rank of Maj Gen waiting period none.
2.For Officers/ JCO retiring in a year the waiting period is less then their service left,Officers who are going through SSC,apply when their reliving date is a little more then an year, and get it before hanging up their boots.
Further serving officers of the fauj get Pistols/revolvers from IOFB on immediate basis, there is no waiting for them either at IOF Kanpur or Calcutta.

Amit,
You just pulled a rabbit out of the magician's hat :D . Very interesting info this.

Now about this IOF pistol/revolver which a serving army officer can get --
1. At what price is it available to the army officer ?
2. Is it transferable or can it be sold/gifted to a civilian ?

best,

Hi Rajesh, the price is the MRP minus the Taxes, which inculde the Exice and Vat,the difference would be MRP Minus 20%,not very conversant with the MRP of the piece of crap they call IOFB Rev/Pistol,but i guess could check the website, though wont know how good that would be cause its never updated.,Rajesh, Faujis have also joined the civilians in scams,i am sure you read what happened in Ganganagar, Rajasthan and Bhutan with NSP & S P weapons  ,regarding the resale/gifting of IOFB,the same 5 years ban applies.
ngrewal, veer once you are out of the Army you are a civilian,so nothing for the retired guys, join karn lage Akal le lianed ne te rafle de dande ne,ghar pehjan veale rafal ve le lande ne,so in short just the CSD facilities once you are out of the Fauuj.

Thanks Amit, very knowledgeable as usual :) .

Tell me , to buy an IOF .32 pistol does the army officer need a firearm license if he has no other firearm issued to him from the army previously ?

Oh I found the answer to my query just now, so I am posting it here ......
Officers and other employees of the Armed Forces can also purchase these weapons if they obtain the Arms Licence from the Licensing Authorities. Sale of these weapons is done strictly as per the provisions of the Arms Act, 1959 and the Arms Rules, 1962.
