I think hornet22 has the best idea. Who knows what goes on in the minds of government officials.
Keep your current license intact and go through the work to get a new one -- at least you have the current one intact. Otherwise, who knows what kind of trouble could ensue. Because of some gefuddlement on the part of the officials, you may find yourself without any license at all.
