In remembrance - Marksman RIP

Post by mundaire » Wed Nov 05, 2025 9:19 pm

It is with a heavy heart, that I share this news with you, our long time member (since early 2007) Marksman, is no more of this earth.

May his eternal soul find peace with the almighty.

Many of you would have seen his posts here, interacted with him and maybe even have been lucky enough to get to know him offline.

On the boards he was always helpful, polite and happy to share his knowledge. For those who knew him offline, he was a treasure trove of anecdotes, gossip (not the sleazy kind, just outdoors related) and everything related by him with a good dose of humour. :)

I recall some great conversations with him, discussing the old days, how things were done and what could be a good way forward for wildlife conservation in India. Like most old shikaris he had a passion for conservation, which can't be compared, unless someone has spent those days and nights in the jungle...

He was lucky enough to have collected some really fine guns during his lifetime, which he took great care of and was happy to share with friends.

He was also a renowned shot in multiple disciplines, something he shrugged off as immaterial - having achieved so much else in life.

His passing was untimely and really sudden, can only wish his closest ones the strength to bear this immense loss.

God bless his soul.

That is a lovely eulogy, Abhijeet, to a wonderful person who was multifaceted and accomplished on several fronts in life. I was lucky to have interacted with him a few times. His departure is untimely and sudden, and he will be missed by those who knew him personally and through his work. Thank you for penning these words in memory of a departed brother in arms.

I never had much interaction with Marksman but I was made aware of his identity early on.

Given his profession, one couldn't help knowing about him and he appeared to be a very pleasant person.

My condolences to his family and friends.

P.S.: Funnily enough, the stock from one of his former rifles came to me for repairs and refinishing last year.

My condolences to entire family.

Many years ago I heard some wonderful stories from a friend’s father who hunted and did wildlife photography with Marksman. There were some black and white photographs from the yesteryears that I saw that were exceptional.

It was only recently that I found out about his identify and it made so much sense!

May he rest in peace.

Regards,
SS
